SB 285 Signed Into Law, Strengthening Fund Revenue

Gov. Kemp signs Senate Bill 285

On May 6, Governor Brian Kemp signed Senate Bill 285 into law, marking a significant milestone for the Peace Officers’ Annuity and Benefit Fund. The legislation, which takes effect July 1, 2026, establishes a significant new revenue stream designed to support the long-term financial strength of the Fund.

The bill received strong bipartisan support and reflects a continued commitment from state leadership to Georgia’s law enforcement community. Key contributions came from Senator Randy Robertson, the bill’s sponsor, along with Lieutenant Governor Burt Jones, Speaker Jon Burns, Appropriations Chairmen Senator Blake Tillery and Representative Matt Hatchett, and Retirement Chairmen Senator Rick Williams and Representative John Carson.

Executive Director Homer Bryson expressed his appreciation for the leaders involved, noting that the legislation represents a meaningful investment in the Fund’s future and the members it serves. He also encouraged members to recognize and thank those who supported the measure, while acknowledging the important role members themselves played in the bill’s success through their engagement with legislators.

This legislative success ensures the Fund remains well-positioned to serve its members now and into the future.
