Reinstatement

If your membership has been terminated due to delinquent dues – OR – if you did not inform the POAB of your return to law enforcement after an employment change within 6 months, you can reinstate your account to Active Membership. Below, you'll find detailed information on the reinstatement process.

Reinstatement Guidelines

Members have six months from the time of first delinquency to pay all dues owed without negatively affecting their service credit. Membership dues are set at $35 per month.

Scenarios for Reinstatement

1. Reinstating after Termination for Non-Payment of Dues

Within 6-Month Window:

  • Required Payment: All delinquent dues (up to 6 months) + $100 reinstatement fee.
  • Outcome: No service is lost, and membership is returned to Active Status.

Outside 6-Month Window:

  • Required Payment: One month's dues + $100 reinstatement fee.
  • Outcome: Gap Service is lost. Account is returned to Active Status upon receipt of $135.00 payment.

2. Reinstating after Employment Change

Within 6-Month Window:

  • Required Payment: The cost of dues (up to 6 months).
  • Outcome: Member avoids losing creditable service and is reinstated to Active Status.

Outside 6-Month Window:

  • Required Payment: One month's dues + $100 reinstatement fee.
  • Outcome: Gap Service is lost. Account is returned to Active Status upon receipt of $135.00 payment.

Unclaimed Service (Gap Service)

Members who wish to reclaim service time lost due to non-payment or failure to notify the POAB of employment changes can purchase the time lost at full actuarial cost. Learn more about Buying Gap Service on the GAP SERVICE page.

Important Reminders

  • Ensure timely payment of dues and prompt notification of employment changes to avoid termination of your membership.
  • It is the member's responsibility to see that dues are paid regardless of dues payment method.
    • Account delinquency does not exclude members on Payroll Deduction or Automatic Withdrawal.
